Chapter 1: Growing Up and Finding His Passion Lance Armstrong was born on September 18, 1971, in Plano, Texas. His mom, Linda, raised him by herself and worked hard to support them. Even though they didn’t have a lot of money, Linda taught Lance to work hard and never give up. From a young age, Lance loved sports. He started with swimming and running, but by the time he was 13, he found his true passion—cycling. He even started competing in triathlons, where he had to swim, bike, and run all in one race.
